Our 2014 New Year's Day Pinterest Party Wrap Up!

Our second New Year's Day Pinterest Party was so much fun! Thanks to all of  you who came out in spite of the freezing cold temps. Here are some of the projects we did at the party ... all easy enough for you to do at one of  your own. Who knew paper clips would be so fun to decorate? Most of the time, I slip a piece of washi tape through the loop ... which we did at the party, too ... but I also like to put little paper shapes on the ends. I found some small punches and punched two of the same shape. I put a large adhesive dot on the metal loop and stuck it first to one shape, and then to the other matching one. I used my fingers to squeeze them together and match up the edges. Easy! Glue sticks work well for sticking them together, too. Fun to tuck into an envelope for a friend.

Clothespins ... another cool tool for hanging items or clipping pages together. To make these, I cut two pieces of paper that fit my clothespin ... 3/8"x3 1/4" seem to be an average size. I punched out two scallops and a snowflake with a paper punch. Glue the two scallops together. Use a pop dot to attach the snowflake, adding a bling in the center. Use an adhesive dot to hold the whole thing to the clothespin. Then ... lightly spray with cheap hair spray and quickly sprinkle with glitter. Shake off the excess glitter, wipe off the bling with a finger, then set aside to dry. Tie a piece of sparkly ribbon under the scallop. So cute!

I love washi tape for it's versatility. Here, I wrapped one or two pieces around a battery operated votive. I used a punch and cut hearts out of matching paper. Added a little bling in the corner and then attached the heart with a pop dot over the part where the edges of the washi tape came together. Cute for a any kind of party!

Our last project was a snowflake bookmark ... cuz here in Minnesota it's pretty cold right now and we like to snuggle under a quilt and read! I die cut a snowflake using my Sizzix Big Shot and a snowflake die from their collection. The paper was glittered white corrugated cardstock. I used a paper punch to cut a one inch circle from white cardstock. And cut a piece of mixed fibers a little over 12" long. Put some glue on to the center of the back of the snowfake and then lay one end of the fibers on it. Put glue on the circle and press it over the fibers to cover it up and make it look nice. Flip the snowflake over and add a bling in the center. Tie a decorative metal circle ... or a button or something else heavy ... on to the other end of the fiber piece. You're all done and ready to mark your place in your book!

Just for fun we made some other Valentines projects to sit on the counter ... one was our vinyl covered coasters made from PamKittyMorning Love ... fussy cut them a bit so they'd look just right. Scroll backwards in the blog and you'll find the directions in the last post. We had some other cute things that we made but the ones that were fast to make were the doily garlands from red, pink, and white doilies that I layered and ran through my sewing machine. I could see these hanging in windows or from all of the piping in the Cottage.
